Currently, in the United States there are roughly 10,000 truck stops. Truck stops originated as a reliable source of diesel fuel for semi-trucks, since it was not available at regular gas stations. This and the growth of Interstate systems led to the current truck stop industry that is known today. Truck stops are frequently depicted as somewhat seedy places on television, but this is an outdated stereo type and there are many great stops out there too.
Many modern truck stops are elegant, clean, safe and abundant with many amenities. Truck stops are today, are considered to be a home away from home for a lot of truck drivers. It is not easy for over the road truckers to drive 10 to 12 hours every day.
